Biography
True Gibson is a Teaching Assistant Professor in Philosophy at Appalachian State University. His specialization is in the philosophy of science — especially the philosophy of biology and the philosophy of psychology. His research investigates how we humans' evolved cognitive structures shape the ways we interact with and think about the world around us. This includes how we humans engage with wide-ranging philosophical questions, as well as how we approach scientific and everyday problems. Of particular interest for True is how humans think about philosophical questions relating to moral responsibility and agency. His other research interests include the history of science, especially the history of evolutionary thought, and methodological questions related to philosophical naturalism. True completed his Ph.D. in the Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science at the University of California—Irvine. Before that, he earned his B.S. in Biochemistry & Biophysics at Oregon State University. Outside of philosophy, True enjoys baking and cooking, watching and playing sports, and spending time outdoors in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
