Alan Hauser

Dr. Alan J. Hauser received his PhD in biblical studies from the School of Religion of the University of Iowa in 1972.  He taught at Appalachian from 1972 until he retired in 2018, for 46 years total.  He was chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion from 1982 to 1997.  He chaired Appalachian's Faculty Senate from 1979 through 1981, and then chaired the University of North Carolina System's Faculty Assembly from 1982 until 1985.  He was the Senior Editor the international journal Currents in Biblical Research from 1991 until 2018, published by Sheffield Academic Press and SAGE Publications.  He, along with Duane F. Watson, edited the multi volume A History of Biblical Interpretation, published by Eerdmans Press.  He also participated as editor in a number of other volumes, and published numerous articles and essays.  From 1986 until 2018 he served as Appalachian's Faculty Athletics Representative, serving on numerous NCAA, Southern Conference, and Sun Belt Committees, several of which he chaired.
